Nutrition Improvement Program
Unlocking
human potential
The Nutrition Improvement Program of DSM Nutritional Products Ltd
is dedicated to improving human health and prosperity by eliminating
micronutrient malnutrition. We support and promote the addition to staple foods
of essential micronutrients (nutrients that cannot be synthesized in the body
and are required only in minute quantities daily, such as vitamins, trace
elements and most minerals) that are lacking in a populations diet.
It
is our strong conviction that, to be effective, a food fortification program
must:
- Correct all prevailing deficiencies: It
is uncommon for malnourished populations to be deficient in only one
micronutrient. If only one deficiency is corrected in isolation, metabolism
might still be impaired, since another deficiency becomes the limiting factor.
For this reason, a multiple micronutrient approach is generally more effective
than a single micronutrient approach.
- Employ ingredients of a guaranteed high
quality: Selecting ingredients based on price rather than quality can lead to
inferior results. If the program doesn't work, it will be too expensive, no
matter how little the ingredients cost.
- Adhere to strict standards of quality
assurance, monitoring and evaluation to ensure optimal benefits for the target
population.

By
investing in tailor-made product forms and production methods, DSM Nutritional
Products can deliver safe and effective solutions for the large-scale
fortification of staple foods with vitamins and minerals.
- Partnerships with Governments

international agencies, providing concrete plans and area-specific objectives
aimed at the establishment of successful and sustainable food fortification
programs for mandatory food fortification alliances. Sharing of capabilities,
as well as exploiting synergies will certainly accelerate the relief of hidden
hunger (micronutrient malnutrition) among underprivileged populations.
